Being my second Ramadan this year, I'm quite excited and enthusiastic to see how Qatar hotels and restaurants treat the Holy month so very special and make every little effort to express the spirit.
My first Iftar buffet this year was Flying Carpet at The Torch Doha - and, I can say, without a doubt, what a start!
The Torch, as it popularly is, one of the proud structures in Doha has made a special place amidst the residents. Their hospitality and service, too, stands out as their edifice.
Right from the entrance (awaiting our invite voucher) to the Flying Carpet, we walked in luxury and warm smiles. The archway to the restaurant brought us in to view the Ramadan essence with beautiful lanterns and wishes for the month displayed in contrastive ways. Complimenting the decor was their already themed flying carpets interiors. In addition, they also had a nice huge screen for the #FIFA2014.
Our reserved table was decorated with kahwa (in the kettle), water and dates. As impatient as I always am, I took to the buffet tables to check out the spread (will talk about it below) and photograph a few .
Other drinks included the apricot, laban and tamarind.
The buffet comprised of various Arabic delicacies. Also featuring was the live cooking station. I wouldn't be listing each of them, but definitely a few that got me hooked on to even though I'm a light eater at Iftar.
The crisp cheese balls and the falafel at the hot mezze counter, juicy chicken shawarma, kebab khashkhash, all the cold mezze (except beetroot hummus - somethings are better kept original for me) and babaganough. I liked how condiments were displayed in arrays of cute little cups for you to pick one.
The dessert area was a great mix too - traditional Arabic and beautiful pastries, tarts and puddings in perfect small portions. My favorite instantly was kunafa (the best I'd so far in Doha), kiwi tart and mohalabia. The fruit section surely deserves a mention for the astounding arrangement and variety.
The Iftar Buffet is QR 210 per person and is served until 8:00 pm (I suggest a prior reservation).
I would give it 4.5 out of 5.
Suhoor Buffet: QR 180 pp (11:00 pm - 2:00 am)
*including Ramadan juices
The newly-opened TORCH TEA GARDEN located on the 21st floor overlooking Aspire Park serves a Suhoor Set Menu including traditional Ramadan platters at QR 190 net per person served from 10.00 PM to 1.30 AM. TORCH TEA GARDEN will be open from 8:00PM to 2:00AM.
