What changed my mind was a review earlier this week by Elizabeth at Qatar and Yonder. Not only were the pictures appealing, the words complemented well too and all looked promising.
Now, I was motivated enough to experiment this one of its kind concept in Doha (I don’t think anyone has thought of this earlier). Just FYI, the Indian Afternoon Tea is on offer as part of their festive menu to welcome Diwali (an Indian lights festival). We wanted to celebrate my little one’s birthday with a difference and some place where we could relax and stay for long.
We made prior reservations for 2 reasons: a) it was a Saturday afternoon, and b) high teas tend to fill up fast and for the full duration (in this case, 2 pm to 8 pm). I am glad we did, the place was quite full by the time we arrived at 4 pm.
Onion pakoda - not much to say, only one word FANTASTIC, dip it in those chutneys below.
Samosa - was as if an Indian Chef had overtaken the kitchen and spread the magic of this most loved afternoon snack. Served with a side of the vibrant Mint and Tamarind Chutney.
Papdi Chaat - Lip Smackingly scrumptious
Falooda - is a Rose milk drink with vermicelli, basil seeds and at times tapioca pearls topped with ice cream and thick cream. What was missing in this one was the basil seeds and the thick cream. Since the high tea means everything is served together, our falooda turned into a milkshake with melted ice cream which was the only downside.
Son papdi - I am not too fond of this Indian dessert but something about the one here was so appetizing, I couldn’t resist.
Nankhatai - an Indian cookie: was palatable but a bit modified here and luscious.
To our surprise, they didn’t charge us for the pastry at all.
Overall, it is worth a try and since it is for limited time only, I would highly recommend it.
Oh, and if you have lasted through the review and still wondering what my caption means; it literally translates into "tea and fritters" - A slang phrase used when casually meeting a friend for tea.
Indian festive Afternoon Tea
Till 2nd November
Daily from 2 pm - 8 pm
One stand with one pot of tea/ a coffee - QR 140 - good to share between 2 persons
I would give it 4 out of 5 (the 0.5 less is only and only for the time it took to bring out the order).
